QUETTA: The Balochistan government and the Pakistan Railways on Thursday formally agreed to launch a commuter train service connecting the Sariab and Kuchlak areas of Quetta, with the project expected to enter implementation phase within six months.
The agreement was reached during a high-level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, officials said.
The project, People`s Train Service, aims to provide a fast, safe and cost-effec-tive travel facility for local residents.
During the meeting, CM Bugti held a phone conversation with federalMinister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, who assured full support for the project.
Mr Abbasi confirmed Pakistan Railways would provide the necessary engines, coaches and supporting infrastructure within the six-month timeframe.
With preliminary consultations and technical feasibility studies completed, the project now moves into its execution phase.-Staff Correspondent
