ISLAMABAD: The additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ), Kamran Basharat Mufti, on Monday recused himself from the proceedings of the trial of former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf in Abdul Rashid Ghazi murder case.
ADSJ Mufti excused himself from Ghazi murder case after the counsel for Gen Musharraf raised the objection that since judge Mufti was associated with the Lal Masjid Commission which probed July 2007 military operation on the mosque therefore he could not conduct the trial.
Following the objection, the judge recused himself from the case and referred it to another judge.
The case against Gen Musharraf was registered in 2013 and ADSJ Wajid Ali heard the case until June this year, when it was referred to additional district and sessions judge Mufti.
Though the police arrested Musharraf in the said murder case in October 2013, he was later released on bail.
The police submitted the challan in the murder case in which it had maintained that there was no evidence or any eyewitness whatsoever which could prove Musharraf`s involvement in the murder, and left him at the mercy of the court.Staff Reporter
