Nadra blunder

2021-09-08
RECENTLY the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra)introduced the 8009 service to help people get their family data authenticated. The identification required to access this information is only the CNIC number and its date of issue.

CNIC copies are required by many establishments, like banks, for property matters, where government documents are required, etc. Any individual having this CNIC information can use any mobile device to retrieve this data.

In addition, considering the security situation in the country, anyone having access to this information can easily monitor and identif y the members of the f amily to harm them. Additionally, the information can also be accessed by foreign agencies to tap people.

Personal identity data thefts are among the known and acknowledged security challenges in the world. The solution lies inhaving a securityfeature putin place so that the information can only be retrieved by the authenticated user against the mobile number registered in his/her name and duly verified through the Nadra database.

I hope Nadra will take immediate action to mitigate this security loophole.
