PA passes three bills rejected by governor

2022-09-08
LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly on Wednesday reconsidered and passed three bills that had been rejected by the governor and sent back to the assembly secretariat.

These included the Punjab Commission on Status of Women Bill 2022, Lahore Central Business District Development Authority Amendment Bill 2022, and Ravi Urban Development Authority Amendment Bill 2022.

The house passed the three bills with a simple majority. Now they will become laws even without signatures of the governor.

Later, a resolution was moved in the house against the arrest of the Leader of the Opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Haleem Adil Shaikh. It condemned the atrocities committed on Mr Sheikh by the `imported` government and demanded his release and quashing of the `false` cases registered against him.

MPA Umar Farooq also tabled a resolution to condemn the cancellation of the licence of Bol TV network by the Electronic Media Regulatory Authority. It alleged the federal government had attacked the freedom of press through the closure of Bol News.

After completion of the agenda for the day, Speaker Sabtain Khan adjourned the session for Monday (Sept 12).-Staff Reporter
