Bheel clan protest against kidnap of members

RAHIM YAR KHAN: Dozens of members of Bheel clan on Wednesday staged a protest and blocked traf fic against the kidnapping of three people by robbers at Mureed Shakh Chowk, some 65kms from here.

Khamisa Jee, Bashir Jee and Pehalwan Jee of Chak 238-P (Bangla Manthar) were allegedly kidnapped near Guddu Barrage on Tuesday when they were going to their relatives. Later, the dacoits also shared a video showing the kidnapped men appealing to the district police officer for their release.

An elderly woman fainted during the protest who was rescued by locals.

The protesters were holding copies of the Holy Quran in their hands, demanding immediate release of their relatives.

It was learnt that members of Mirani and Malik clans also protested near Nawazabad area against the kidnapping of three masons last week.

IUB: The Liaqatpur campus of Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) would be functional soon in the city, said registrar Dr Moazzam Jameel while talking to journal-ists after a briefing at Liaqatpur press club on Wednesday.

He said the establishment of a sub-campus of IUB in Liaquatpur would provide educational facilities to the people of the deprived and backward region. Talented male and female students of the area will get best opportunities for higher education in their city. He said admissions would be given in 26 disciplines in Liaqatpur sub-campus.

He said research is being promoted in Cholistan Research Centre, Liaqatpur, and the establishment of the campus would create employment opportunities in the area.

Dr Mukshoff Ahmed, director (admissions), said the construction of the building would be started by acquiringland for the sub-campus.

Initially 200 students would be admitted and so far 700 applications had been received while more youngsters would submit their candidature after the intermediate results.

Director of Press Media and Publications Shehzad Ahmed Khalid said scholarships would be given to the children of journalists.
