Man held with 4kg hashish

KARAK: Police seized four kilogrammes of hashish and arrested an alleged smuggler here on Saturday.

A police statement said that following a tip-off one Abdur Rauf, a resident of Bannu district, was stopped by Gurguri police.

On search, 4.2 kilogrammes of hashish was recovered from his car, it said. The suspect was shif ted to police station for further investigation.

The statement added that the police also arrested a proclaimed offenderidentified asIsrar Ali, a resident of Hoti Banda, and recovered a Kalashnikov from his possession. They also arrested 37 other suspects and recovered a repeater, one rifle and three pistols during the ongoing operation.

Police have registered FIRs against them.

P E N S I O N E R S ` DEMAND: The Pensioners` Welfare Association of Karak district in a meeting on Saturday demanded increase in pension according to the prevailing price hike, medical allowance and senior citizen allowance.

The association`s district president, Akbar Ali Khan, chaired the meeting, which was attended by a number of pensioners.

They said that prices of essential commodities, including vegetables, had crossed all the previous records. They said that tomato was available at Rs200 per kilogramme, which the poor could not afford.

They demanded of the district administration to ensure regularcheckingof prices in the local bazaars to discourage prohteering.

The association urged the authorities to transfer accounts of thousands of pensioners of Banda Daud Shah tehsil to Karak district from Kohat so that they could easily draw their pension.
