CHARSADDA: Qaumi Watan Party chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said on Saturday that the parliament should complete its term and general elections should be held according to the schedule.

Speaking at a public meeting at Katozai in Shabgadar here, he said that early elections would not be in the interest of democradc processin the country. On this occasion, he inaugurated a Sui gas supply scheme.

Mr Sherpao said that if the demand for early election was accepted this time it would open a Pandora`s box and similar demands would also be raised in future.

He said that such a trend would badly affect the government as no government would be able to complete its projects which would ultimately lead to political instability in the system.

Therefore, such demands should be discouraged and the democratic process should be allowed to continue, he said. The QWP chairman lamented delay in the Fata-KP merger, saying putting the issue on the backburner would increase the sense of deprivation among the tribal people.

He said that sacrifices of Fata people had been ignored by the federal government and they were intentionally kept deprived of their due rights. He said that Frontier Crimes Regulation should be abolished.

He said that the Fata-KP merger was the demand of QWP from the day one and the party stood firmly with the tribal people on this issue.

The QWP leader said that the KP government had failed to take timely steps for controlling dengue epidemic, especially in the suburbs of Peshawar. He said that the number of affected people was increasing day by day, but the provincial government was yet to take effective steps to control the disease.

Mr Sherpao said that normalisation of relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan was vital for regional peace and economic development.
