Hearing of PTI leaders` cases adjourned

TOBA TEK SINGH: Faisalabad`s Anti-Terrorism Court Special Judge Javed Iqbal Sheikh has adjourned the hearing of cases under section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act involving 40 Pakistan Tehreeki-Insaf (PTI) leaders and activists until Oct 14.

Supplementary challans were submitted by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on Monday. The court has summoned all accused to appear in person on the next hearing date.

Among those summoned areprominent PTI figures Umer Ayub, Zartaj Gul, Shibli Faraz, Azam Swati, and others.

PTI MNA Ali Afzal Sahi and MPA Junaid Afzal Sahi were granted a one-day exemption from attendance due to parliamentary commitments.

The court also postponed their trial, along with that of MNA Rai Hassan Nawaz, MPA Rai Murtaza Iqbal, and former minister Ashraf Sohna, until the same date. The cases pertain to the riots following the May 9, 2023, arrest of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

ATTACK: Members of a gypsy tribe in Chak 427-JB, Gojra,held a dozen Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) officials hostage during a raid on Monday.

The ANF team, led by Assistant Director Salman Hundal, raided the home of suspect Ghulam Muhammad Oadh to recover narcotics.

However, Oadh`s relatives attacked the team, accused them of being robbers, and severely beat them. The attackers tore the officials` uniforms and locked them in a room.

A police force was dispatched to rescue the ANF team, who were later shifted to Gojra Tehsil Headquarters Hospital due to severe injuries. The tribemembers also blocked GojraJhang Road in protest, but the police managed to restore traffic after negotiations.

Authorities are planning further action to arrest those responsible.

KIDNAPPED: A married woman was reportedly kidnapped from her home in Chak 338 JB, Gojra, on Monday.

According to a first information report filed by her aunt, Ramzana Bibi, the alleged kidnapped person, Nagina, was alone when Ashfaq and his accomplices forcibly entered her house and abducted her.

The case was registeredunder section 365 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

FIA: The Faisalabad Federal Investigation Agency`s composite circle team arrested two Faisalabad Electric Supply Company officials on Monday for accepting bribes.

Line Superintendent Tanweer Ahmad Tabassam and meter reader Muhammad Rizwan were caught red-handed accepting bribes from citizens in exchange for falsely implicating them in electricity theft cases.

Marked currency notes were recovered from their possession, and both officials have been imprisoned.
