LA HORE: The Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Oncology (Inmol) organized a seminar on the breast cancer awareness at the institute here on Friday.
A large number of lady doctors, nurses, medical staff and female patients participated in the seminar.
Inmol Director Dr Abu Baker Shahid said the institute had been offering various services about cancer for the last 30 years.
He said the Inmol had performed over 50 mammograms on the `Mammogram Day` which was observed last month.
Oncologist Dr Misbah Masood said that breast cancer patients were increasing by the day and it was alarming that South Asian region ranked top in the world in terms of such patients.Radiologist Dr Zainab Mahmood informed the participants about symptoms, precautions and treatment of the breast cancer.
She also highlighted the importance of mammography in breast cancer. `The dilemma is that 60-70 per cent patients come to hospital when the disease has already reached stage III or IV,` she said.
She stressed upon the need to create awareness among women about early diagnosis, precautionary measures and tests required for breast cancer.
Oncologist Dr Ayesha Anees informed the participants about the treatment, risks of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
A patient, Nusrat Mahmood Qureshi, who has recovered from illness, narrated her bitter experiences when she had fallen ill in 1993 and also spoke about her feelings after recovery.
