Repatriation of IDPs in final stage: Jhagra

PARACHINAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said repatriation of internally displaced people is in the final stage and effective measures are underway to ensure their rehabilitation.

Addressing a tribal jirga during his visit to Kurram Agency on Monday, the governor said rehabilitation of educational and health facilities were getting topmost priority.

Mr Jhagra said over Rs1.6 billion had been earmarked for development in Kurram Agency during current financial year, out of which, over Rs470m were meant for education sector; Rs85m for providing health services and Rs690m for developing communication sector.

The governor also inaugurated a newly developed hydel power project which besides generating 150KV electricity will irrigate vast cultivable area in the agency.

Mr Jhagra also inaugurated governor`s model schools at Parachinar and Sadda completed at Rs170m; and newlyconstructed Parachinar to Kara Khela Road costing Rs63m. The governor inaugurated an emergency ward at the agency headquarters hospital; a degree college and an irrigation scheme at Alizai in Sadda tehsil.

He directed Wapda officials to take initiatives for upgradation of Sadda grid station from 66kw to 132kw, asking Fata secretariat to ensure filling up of vacancies in health and educational institutions of the agency. He also announced Rs102m for rehabilitation of 42 partially damaged schools; Rs131m for providing facilities in other educational institutions; and Rs106m for water supply projects in the agency.-Correspondent
