PTI senator calls for NAB probe into Faraz Park project

KOHAT: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Senator Shibli Faraz has demanded an inquiry by the National Accountability Bureau into delay in construction work by the tehsil municipal administration on a public park in Kohat named after his father, the legendary Urdu poet late Ahmed Faraz.

He also demanded an inquiry into the illegal allotment of a portion of the project land to a stone crushing machine by TMA.

Talking to Dawn here, Senator Faraz said that work was halted on the project since 2014 and when he inquired about it from TMA he was told that the contractor RCC Company had siphoned off Rs10 million, leaving the work incomplete.

`The truth is that my uncle andbrother of Ahmed Faraz, then governor Barrister Masud Kausar, had revised the initial estimate of Rs 57.75 million allocated for the project to Rs160.10 million in 2013,` he said and added that the executing agency was mentioned as the tehsil municipal administration.

He said that the given date of start of work was Jan 30, 2013 and completion Jan 30, 2015.

According to tehsil regulation officer Imtiaz Paracha, the municipal committee had spent Rs9 million on the Faraz Park project, which was abandoned in 2014 as the contractor left the worl(incomplete.

CROP DAMAGED: The wheat and maize crops grown over thousands of acres have been extensively damaged by wild boars here in Jarma, Hangu Road and Tanda Dam areas, incurring huge losses to farmers.

When contacted, district wildlife officer Asadullah said on Tuesday that chief of the relevant conservation department, Peshawar, would usually issue permits for shooting tothe foreigners for game, but for a couple of years no such permits had been issued.

He said that he had written about the problem to the authorities concerned and soon permits would be issued to teams in Mardan and Swabi for hunting of the wild boar.

He said that the number of wild boars around the wildlife park in Tanda Dam had been counted at over 600.

District councillor Shah Raza, chairman of standing committee on agriculture, said that the Hangu Road area was teaming with boars that came out in the evening and destroy crops.

Meanwhile, district police officer Javed Iqbal on Tuesday finalised security plan for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

For this purpose, the district has been divided into four sectors and eight sub-sectors to provide security to the mourners.

Also, five joint control rooms would be established with the assistance of district administration.
