Impractical USAT

2021-11-08
THE Undergraduate Studies Admission Test (USAT) is a great initiative taken by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to help tackle the inequality, injustice and politics involved in getting admission in top-notch universities across the country.

However, since the HEC had made the USAT announcement very late this year, the universities advertised their admissions programmes on their own.

One wonders what good USAT is for when the universities have refused to take into consideration the USAT result for admission purposes. If the universities were to reject its result, was USAT meant to only exploit the students and their parents? Shouldn`t the HEC have directed or at least consulted with the universities before taking this initiative? Now a number of students have to pay double the fee when most of them are suffering from the economic impacts of Covid and rising inflation in the country.

Such hasty decisions and policy changes without taking the relevant stakeholders onboard donogoodtothe students.

The authorities concerned, especially the HEC, should address the issue once and for all.
