Misusing cellphone

2016-12-08
I WAS attending a college a few days ago.

The students were listening with rapt attention to the teacher when his phone rang. He took the call and talked for seven minutes. After ending the call he tried to resume from where he had lef t of f, but had lost his chain of thought and hummed and hawed till the the class was over.

A period in any education institution on any subject is important for students. The time is specifically designated for the students, and the teacher must utilise the class time for the purpose allocated. Not in our class. Several times the class is disturbed when a teacher receives a call during class.

I have observed this practice is all prevalent now. Besides teachers, doctors use mobile phones while on duty.

A complaint appeared in the media recently of a hospital in Hyderabad where doctors, nurses and other hospital staff were using mobile phones and social media while on duty. They are being paid by the government to serve the public.

The government should ban the use of mobile phones by employees on duty.
