Climate technologies

2021-12-08
THE world is opting to use climate technologies to ameliorate environmental disasters caused by climate change. Climate technologies reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in order to combat climate change.

Few of these include energy efficiency improvement, clean technology, resource recycling, environment-friendly technology, fusion-related technology, and renewable energy sources.

Overall, the goal is to take all practical means to promote, facilitate and finance the transfer of, or provide access to, ecologically sound technologies, as well as to support the development and strengthening of endogenous capacities and technologies Besides, all organisations need to be encouraged to assist in facilitating the transfer of all relevant technologies.

Concomitantly, Pakistan is regarded as a highly climate-vulnerable country despite its small contribution to global GHG emissions.

Climate change has a significant impact on rural population that relies on natural resources for its basic energy needs.

Furthermore, due to the combined effects of natural resource depletion and climate change, Pakistan is facing serious energy security issues. In addition, the country`s increasing reliance on imported fossil fuels, such as oil and petroleum products, has increased carbon emissions. Pakistan needs to adopt the right technology to control the negative consequences of climate change.

Rainwater harvesting, stormwater management, groundwater recharge, high-efficiency irrigation systems, droughttolerant crop varieties, climate monitoring and forecasting systems, and a variety of renewable energy technologies, such as solar, hydroelectric, wind, improved cooking systems, and biogas plants, are some of them. They do, however, require continuous support from both the government and the private sector. Continuous improvements are also required in environmental and energy-related regulations and policies to increase the benefits associated with appropriate technologies.
