`My Focus and Motivation is Inconsistent` Dear Auntie, I hope you are feeling better after making others feel better. I am an English language lecturer but, from the very beginning, I have wanted to pass the Central Superior Services (CSS) exam. I am extremely enthusiastic and dedicated, because I can`t forget even for a single second that it is a competitive exam.

In addition, I am working a lot. Sometimes that makes me satisfied and energetic, but at other times, I lose my motivation to work hard and focus on crucial tasks.

With great respect, I am writing to you to seek your suggestions so I can make better sense of my confusion. Is this a normal problem or am I the only one facing it? And how can I stay focused all the time? Wavering Dear Wavering, It`s inspiring to learn about your dedication to clearing the CSS exam and one can sense your passion for it. Let me assure you that the struggle to stay consistently focused and motivated is not yours alone. This is something that many people face, especially when working towards a demanding goal. So, no, you`re not alone in this.

Just like the body, the mind also needs rest. It is completely normal to feel motivated some days and exhausted and distracted on others. What you need is not perfection, but persistence. On days when your enthusiasm is low, think about taking a step back in order to recharge. On such days, think about why you are pursuing this path.

You are already working hard and what you need is to create a routine that strikes a balance between studying and relaxing. Also, break your study goals into smaller, achievable tasks. Every time you achieve a task, celebrate in a small way.Try not to focus on how much there is left to do and, instead, focus on what you have already achieved.

Also, don`t underestimate the power of resting.

Taking breaks can sharpen your focus.

Finally, be kind to yourself. It`s okay to have bad days. It is actually very normal to have them.

Just remind yourself that progress isn`t a straight line and, as long as you keep showing up, you`re moving forward. Keep the faith, trust your hard work and take care of yourself along the way.

Wishing you success.
