ISLAMABAD, Jan 8: Six days before Dr Tahirul Qadri`s long march is to arrive in Islamabad, the Supreme Court was requested on Tuesday to restrain the religious scholar from turning the Constitutional Avenue into a `Tahrir Square`.

Advocate Asad Mehmood moved a petition before the Supreme Court on Tuesday pleading that the chief of Minhajul Quran, Dr Tahirul Qadri, be directed not to do anything which what the petitioner claimed was illegal and unconstitutional.

Dr Tahirul Qadri, who recently arrived in the country from Canada and is running 1,000 schools under the umbrella of Minhajul Quran, had announced to lead a massive march on Jan 14.

Dr Qadri has also pledged to stay along with at least four million people in the capital city until reforms are introduced in election laws by making members of armed forces and the judiciary mandatory stakeholders in the upcoming interim setup to hold general elections.

The petitioner argued that Dr Qadri`s intentions might be good and for the welfare of Pakistan, apprehensions were being expressed widely that real objective of the march was to derail the democratic process or to bring about a bloody revolution in the country.

The petitioner said the Constitution was clear on the appointment of the caretaker government and apprehended that Dr Qadri`s insistence on getting Articles 62, 63 and 218 of the Constitution amended by bringing a large number people to the Constitution Avenue to make it a `Tahrir Square`could lead to bloody incidents.
