PESHAWAR: An alleged extortionist was killed in the limits of Nasir Bagh police station here on Thursday.
SSP Dr Mian Saeed told a press conference that two extortionists identified as Nabiullah, an Afghan national, and Salman, a resident of Tehkal area in Peshawar, were arrested by police on charges of demanding Rs5 million from Meena Baaz, a resident of Hayatabad, on Dec 24, 2014.
He said that Meena Baaz lodged a complaint with Hayatabad police station that he received a threatening call from unidentified persons through a mobile phone number 03410738317. He said the callers demanded Rs5 million from him.
The extortionists, he said, had threatened to bomb the residence of Meena Baaz if he didn`t pay them the amount.
`We arrested the accused persons during raids. They made some other important disclosures during interrogation,` the SSP said and added that on Thursday morning they were taken to Nasir Bagh area for pinpointing the explosive material hidden there when Nabiullah snatched rifle from a constable and opened firing on the police party.
The official said that Nabiullah received bullet injury in the clash with police. He died of the injuries, he added. Bureau Report
