APROPOS the article `Corporal punishment (Jan 3). Agreeing with the writer`s views, I would like to add that in my city, I too, witness children being punished physically and mentally for little mistakes. They are too small to have the power to take such punitive actions.
Recently, an eight-year-old boy was beaten for coming five minutes late to a government school and became unconscious. Just to vent out our anger, we beat children up.
It would be an act of kindness if corporal punishment for children is banned since our children are the future of the country.
As the writer suggested, the government must take punitive action against those who beat children in any school, madressah or other organisation.
