Drug peddler sentenced to 9-year imprisonment

OKARA: The Renala additional sessions judge (ASJ) sentenced a drug peddler to nine years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs200,000 in a drug case registered under Section 9-(1)3C of The Control of Narcotics Substance Act 1997 on the report of SI Muhammad Atif Nawaz.

In April 2024, Renala city police recovered 2.2 kg of charas from Muhammad Sharif, alias Boora. A complete challan was submitted for trial in the Renala tehsil court, which handed down the sentence. The convict was arrested and sent to district jail Okara.

ARRESTED: Three of 10 unidentified co-suspects were arrested for manhandling and threatening wildlife department staffers who tried to reclaim a wild deer in village Sehti near Hujra Shah Mugeem.

According to the first information report, Dipalpur Wildlife Department Inspector Bashir Ahmad, along with personnel Qadratullah and Muhammad Ashraf, was searching for a wild deer reported in the area. They found that Sajid Mehmood and 10 others had caught the deerand were loading it onto a loader rickshaw.

When the wildlife team resisted, the suspeets allegedly assaulted them and fled to a farmhouse under weapon cover, threatening the staff to avoid pursuit. A case was registered at Hujra police under Sections 506-B, 186, 148, and 149 of the PPC. Police arrested Arslan, Tufail and Akram.

ACCIDENT: Two people were killed and a woman was injured when a motorcycle was hit by a car on Renala Bypass.

Ghulam Ghous, his wife Sardaran Bibi, and 70-year-old relative Haliman Bibi were travelling on GT Road Renala Bypass. In front of a marriage hall, a car collided with their motorcycle, killing Haliman and Ghous on the spot, while Sardaran sustained multiple injuries.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to Renala THQ Hospital.

DELAY: Karachi-bound Allama Iqbal Express faced over a three-hour delay at Okara city model railway station after its engine failed.

The train entered the station around 3pm, but the engine developed a major fault, leaving passengers stranded.

Station staff contacted Lahore for an alternative locomotive.
