BAHAWALPUR: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has constituted a high-level team to investigate the Haroonabad firing incident in which one person was killed, while PPP leader Shaukat Basra and his cousin were injured.
Bahawalpur range Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Idrees Ahmed told Dawn that the investigation team would be headed by Sargodha RPO Zulfiqar Hameed, while Additional Inspector General Syed Khurram Shah and Special Branch Superintendent of Police Sajid Ahmed will be its members.
The RPO said the investigation team would probe the case from all angles, determine the causes of the incident and fix respon-sibility.
Dawn learnt that the probe committee would submit its report to the chief minister within 48 hours.
On Monday, there was a clash between alleged business rivals from PML-Z and PPP at Dhamaka Chowk in Haroonabad city. PPP leader Shaukat Basra`s private secretary Imtiaz was killed on the spot. Haroonabad City police on the complaint of Basra had registered a first information report against seven people, while PML-Z chief MNA Ijazul Haq, MPA Chaudhry Murtaza and Municipal Committee Chairman Yaseen were mentioned as instigators/ abettors.
With the help of TV footage, police claimed to have arrested two suspects. Correspondent
