CHITRAL: Two more people, including a woman, died in the snow-related incidents in Sheshi Koh valley of lower Chitral here on Wednesday, taking the death toll to 12.
Deputy commissioner Shahab Hamid Yousufzai confirmed the casualties and identified them as wife of Afzal Khan in Gawooch village who was trapped in snowstorm and died of severe cold, and Hafeezur Rahman of Kashindel village who was killed after being hit by boulders.
He said with two casualties, the death toll had risen to 12 as nine persons died in Shershal village of Karimabad valley and a trooper was killed when militia post was hit by snow two days ago.
Mr Yousufzai said due to inaccessibility to the far-flung areas, the actual magnitude of the loss to the infrastructure, homes and even human lives could not be ascertained.
He said due to heavy snow, the local administration was experiencing difficulties in opening the valley roads as there was danger of boulders and snow avalanches.
He said that the power supply to the district from the national grid as well as the local hydropower station remained disrupted due to the uprooting of electric pylons.
