LAHORE: A huge fire broke out at a shoe factory in Timber Market, Ravi Road, on Saturday morning resulting in loss of property worth millions.
Firefighters took more than two hours to douse the flames.
According to Rescue 1122, more than 25 labourers were working in the factory early in the morning when the fire erupted. The blaze engulfed the entire building and nearby electric poles. The flames and dense smoke caused panic in the vicinity and all nearby buildings were vacated.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Samir Ahmed told the media that the fire did not cause any loss of life “and the cooling process is under way.”
He said the rescuers and district administration officials first got the surrounding buildings vacated due to the intensity of the fire. “The cause of the fire and extent of the damage are being ascertained,” he said.
