EID AND PENSIONERS: The retired

2025-04-09
EID AND PENSIONERS: The retired personnel of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) were denied pensions for the month of March even though the government had ordered to pay the pensions by March 26. As a result, Eid was spoiled for the pensioners who were forced to seek loans. The government should take to task those who flouted its orders.

Dr Shahid Tufail Lahore PENSION FOR MARCH: The pensioners of the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) usually receive their pensions a few days before the beginning of the next month. However, for some unknown reasons, the pensions that were due on March 31 were not paid before Eidul Fitr, whereas the salaries of the staff were duly disbursed. The usual practice in the past had been to pay the pensions much before if the Eid falls in the last week of the month. This year, an exception was made without any reason.

M. Khizir Faroogi Karachi BUS FARES DURING EID: The Sindh government once again failed to control the inter-city transport mafia during Eid days. I had to pay Rs2,500 instead of Rs1,600 as fare from Jamshoro to Khairpur Mirs. The same issue was faced by millions of people in Sindh. One fails to understand what it is that stops the government from forming a special task force during such days to check the fares at bus terminals.

Salar Lateef Karachi CIVIL HOSPITAL HUB: Recently, I visited the Civil Hospital`s emergency department in Hub to get my blood pressure checked. After waiting for an hour, I was informed that the apparatus was not available. Consequently, I had to visit a private healthcare centre for my check-up. While I was fortunate to seek an alternative, not everyone can afford to do that. If a simple case can take an hour, what would happen if a patient is in a critical condition? Authorities should provide basic facilities to the patients.
