Interim charge-sheet submitted in heritage building demolition case

KARACHI: The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) submitted on Monday an interim charge-sheet before an anti-corruption court in one of two identical cases regarding the demolition of a heritage building in Soldier Bazaar.
The investigating officer in charge named FIA Inspector Adnan Ali, Zeeshan, Mohammad Amin and Abid Shabbir as accused, while sub-registrar Zulfiqar Keerlo was shown as absconder.
The report said that Adnan, Zeeshan and Abid had fraudulently shown themselves as owners of the building and along with their accomplices allegedly demolished the British-era building, located inside Jufelhurst School in Soldier Bazaar, on the night of April 8. The revenue officials had illegally issued a NOC in favour of the private suspects, it added.
After accepting the interim investigation report, the court issued non-bailable warrant for the arrest of the absconder tillMay 10.
In the second case, Inspector Adnan, suspended Soldier Bazaar SHO Irshad Soomro, ASI Hakim Ali, former mukhtiarkar Ahmed Memon, surveyor Ghulam Fareed Chauhan, Sajjad Bashir and Mohammad Amin have been detained and some revenue officials were shown as absconders.

An additional district and sessions judge (South) read out the charges against the accused. However, he pleaded not guilty and opted to contest the case. The court directed the prosecution to examine the witnesses on May 19.
