SAHIWAL: A team of AntiCorruption Establishment on Monday raided Tarikhni procurement centre in Arifwala and booked four food officials and three unknown middlemen on corruption charges.
Assistant Food Controller Sajid Rafiq, Supervisor Imran Javed and two watchmen were found guilty of collecting wheat from farmers in old gunny bags and later selling the commodity to different middlemen. The gunny bags had been issued in 201415 and 2015-16.
ACE official Ghazanfar Tufail said: `We received complaints that the food centre in-charge is selling wheat to middlemen. The ACE, local police, rev-enue and food officials planned a raid and found a huge wheat stock in old gunny bags having no serial numbers in record.
DFC Kaswar Mubarik said the raiding team also found two wheat-laden tractor-trolley belonging to middlemen. `No farmer claimed ownership [of the trolley].` He said a food supervisor, two watchmen and four middlemen managed their escape. The team arrested AFC Sajid Rafiq who was remanded in police custody. ACE circle head Ghazanfar Tufail said the food officials were booked under PPC 409/34 and under section 5/2/94, Prevention of Corruption Act 1947.
ARRESTED: An ACE team onMonday arrested a public school headmaster while receiving Rs20,000 bribe from a teacher.
Ihsan Farid, senior subject specialist at Government High School 45/12L, was facing a departmental inquiry.
Inquiry officer/ headmaster Muhammad Alam Jaffri allegedly demanded Rs20,000 from Ihsan Farid for giving him a clean chit. Ihsan reported the matter to ACE Director Imtiaz Malik.
On Monday, a team arrested Alam Jaffri while receiving four [marked] notes of Rs5,000 denomination from the teacher. A case has been registered against the headmaster. Correspondent
