High medical fees

2018-05-09
A PRIVAT E medical university in Karachi has been fleecing its students by raising tuition fee and other charges.

Having failed to convince university authorities, the Higher Education Commission and the Pharmacy Council, I would like to invite the attention of your paper towards the financial atrocitiesbeing meted out to poor students.

The university has unjustly increased the tuition fee and transport charges. This is despite assurances by the university management at the admission time that the semester fee would not increased. Also, there was no mention to this effect in the university prospectus either.

For the first two semesters of session 2017, Rs.81,500 for each semester had been charged. Now the amount has been increased to Rs99,500, an increase of Rs18,000 a semester.

Also, last year, pick-and-drop charges --Rs20,000-have gone up to Rs45,000 for 2018 -an extraordinary increase of 225pc for the same pathetic minibuses. The university has warned the facility will be withdrawn if increased transport fee is not paid.

The authorities concerned should into the matter at once.
