Ex-Fuuast dean`s arrest warrant issued in graft case

KARACHI: An accountability court on Tuesday issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of two absconding suspects, including the former dean of the engineering faculty of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (Fuuast), in connection with a corruption case.

Abdul Razzaq Memon, former dean of engineering faculty, Fuuast, and Sarwarul Mulk are nominated in a graft reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau.The accountability court`s judge directed the NAB investigating ofHcer to arrest the absconding suspects and produce them in court on May 18.

In August 2017, the federal antigraft watchdog had arrested former director of planning and development of Fuuast Naeem Alchtar for allegedly misappropriating funds of over Rs80 million by awarding illegal contracts.

According to NAB, the detained suspect along with some other officials of Fuuast in collusion with each other had allegedly awarded tenders to specific contractor by misusingtheir authority and in violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules.

Later, the federal anti-graft watchdog had arrested three persons the then vice-chancellor Dr Zafar Iqbal, Dr Fahimuddin, ex-registrar, and Naeem Amjad, the director of Fuuast sub-campus in Lahore.

The investigating of ficer had shown suspects Abdul Razzaq Memon and Sarwarul Mulk as absconders in the case.

The court issued warrants for arrest of the absconders and their production in court on May 18.
