Yet another project

2025-05-09
OUT of nowhere, banners have appeared across various neighbourhoods in Lyari, lauding the announcement of the Lyari Transformation Package by the chairman of the ruling party in Sindh.

The package is meant to improve the infrastructure of Lyari, and is not to be confused with the similarly named Lyari Transformation Package, which is a rehabilitation project for the Lyari and Malir rivers, undertaken jointly by the federal and Sindh governments as part of the broader Karachi Transformation Plan.

One hopes this package will bring a measure of dignity and improved living standards to a community that has long been overlooked. However, for this initiative to truly benefit the residents of Lyari, it must be implemented with efficiency, transparency and due care. If mismanaged, it risks joining the list of several other well-intentioned projects that failed to deliver meaningful change.

In a country where resources are limited and the needs ofthe people are vast, spending public funds wisely is not just good governance; it is a moral obligation.

Every rupee allocated to development must be used with care, transparency and a deep sense of responsibility towards those it is meant to serve.

Hopefully, the Lyari Transformation Package will indeed uplift a community that has long stood at the margins. Let it be a model of responsible governance, not just another footnote in the very long list of abandoned projects and unfulfilled promises.
