Primary teachers call for promotions

2015-06-09
SUKKUR: Activists of the Primary Teachers Association (PTA) took out a rally in Jacobabad on Monday, demanding promotion to higher grades.

Carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the Sindh education secretary, the protesting teachers marched on different roads of the city before converging in front of the press club where they held a sit-in.

Their leaders said that for three years, primary schoolteachers had not been promoted to next grades and alleged that instead of promoting them, fake appointments were being made to the posts of junior schoolteachers.

They demanded the minister for education and the secretary promote primary and junior school teachers.

In Hyderabad, employees of the Public School Hyderabad held a demonstration outside the press club on Monday in protest against non-payment of salaries and other allowances for several months.

They said that around 400 teachers and administration officials of the school had been deprived of their three-month salary (from March to May 2015) while no raise had been paid to them since 2012.

They said they had not been given medical facilities since 2010. Funds allocated for the uplift of the school were being pocketed through fake bills, they said.
