2016-06-09
MUZAFFARABAD: The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Election Commission on Wednesday reminded candidates for the July 21 polls to annex details of their assets with their nomination papers to avoid outright rejection of their candidature.

Under section 47-A of the AJK Legislative Assembly (Elections) Ordinance 1970, every candidate is required to submit to the Election Commission statement of assets on stamp papers in a prescribed manner and obtain its receipt as an annex to the nomination papers, said a spokesman for the electoral services body.

Otherwise, nomination papers will not be entertained, he added.

Referring to section 47-B of the said law, the spokesman made it clear that incomplete information or disinformation about assets could lead the candidate concerned to seven years rigorous imprisonment or fine, partial or complete confiscation of assets as well as disqualification for ten years.

Those persons found guilty of violating the code of conduct for the polls would be liable to one year imprisonment or Rs100,000 fine or both, he said. Staf f Correspondent
