Dawn Report2017-06-09
LAHORE: PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari announced on Thursday that his party would defend the judiciary if the ruling Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz entered a conflict with the institution.
Chairing a consultative meeting of party leaders, the PPP leader said: `We will resist the PML-N`s move against the institutions as they were built on the sacrifices of PPP`s leaders. We will not allow anyone to sacrifice these institutions for the sake of one family.` He said the government should abandon the f alse impression that it had a free hand to go against the courts and other institutions. `We are siding with the institutions and will not allow Nawaz Sharif to repeat history...when PML-N activists attacked the Supreme Court.
He said the party had suffered the `judicial murder` of its leaders and lost its governments, but it had always bowed before the court`s verdict and refrained from confronting the institution.
Separately, while addressing party workers and ofhce bearers at an iftar dinner in Multan, the PPP chairperson deplored thatthefederalbudgethad been presented without announcing the NFC Award which, he claimed, was unconstitutional.
Sindh has not been given its share of the NFC Award and neither has the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received its royalty on electricity, he said.
He claimed that the government had damaged the country`s interests by setting up sugar mills in the cotton belt. He alleged that leaders of the ruling party were using their position of power to further their personal business interests.
However, he said, the PPP would defeat the anti-people forces. `We are reorganising the party in consultation with party workers.
