he Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will be hosting the fifth national conference on physics and emerging sciences next month to promote viable and quality research in the country and linking it with socio-economic development.

Commercially viable research-based projects by young researchers will also be displayed on the occasion, according to a press release issued on Wednesday.

The event will be attended by eminent scientists, researchers, academics as well as M Phil and PhD students from across the country.

The event is being organised by university`s physics department. According to department chairman Dr Syed Zafar Ilyas, the event is in accordance of the vision of the vice chancellor, Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui who wants to develop research culture in the country and to provide researchers with a platform for sharing and projecting their academic work.

The vice chancellor has given a special financial package to faculty and non-faculty members to motivate and inspire them to focus on research, since universities are meant to create and construct knowledge and disseminate the same among the endusers for addressing socio-economic problems in the country.

AIOU has started a number of new programmes in the recent years and is revisiting the curriculum for various disciplines of sciences.

Dr Siddiqui said he hoped the two-day conference will help promote interaction among researchers and help them share experiences and expertise in the field of science and technology. The conference will also be a source of integration and cohesion as its participants will be from across the country.
