CJ takes notice of rainwater flooding airport

RAWALPINDI: Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Friday took notice of rainwater flooding the newly constructed Islamabad International Airport and directed the airport manager and head of the construction company to appear before the Lahore High Court on Sunday.

According to sources, the chief justice Supreme Court was leaving for Karachi from Islamabad at 4:30pm when he noticed pool of rainwater. He asked his protocol officer to call the airport manager, but at that time he was not available at the airport.

Later, the deputy terminal manager came but he could not give satisfactory answers to the chief justice questions.

The Chief Justice directed the airport manager and the head of the construction company to appear before the LHC on Sunday, June 10 to explain how rainwater entered the newly built airport.

During recent downpour the aviation building, build for airlines offices, was flooded with rainwater damaging office equipment.

The PIA staff asked Civil Aviation Authority to pay compensation for the damages caused by rainwater. The PIA staff asked the authority to rectify the problems.

A PIA official in his emergency call to his seniors said that he had been calling the CAA officials as his vehicle was stuck in mud during heavy rain and Human Resource record of the airline was badly damaged during flooding but no one was responding to his emergency call. —Mohammad Asghar
