Thirst for education

2022-06-09
EDUCATION is the most powerful weapon that can change the world. Every citizen is entitled to quality education, as it is a fundamental right defined by Constitution`s Article 25A, titled `Right to education`, which states: `The state shall provide free and compulsory education to all children of the age of five to sixteen years in such manner as may be determined by law.

However, the harsh reality is that people living in remote areas of the country are deprived of this basic right.

My village Daro Napar in Sindh is a case in point.

The village has only one small primary school, and that, too, is in a dilapidated condition. It has only one teacher, who is not professionally qualified. Unfortunately, there is not a single high school here.

The poor peasants of Daro Napar burn the midnight oil to eke out a living for their families. As a result, they cannot afford to send their children to urban areas forhigher education and, therefore, most local children end up working in the fields instead of completing their education.

The Sindh government needs to take notice of the poor standard ofeducationin the village and, indeed, allthe other backward areas of the province, upgrade the existing schools, arrange qualified teachers, and build new high schools.
