Jinnah`s children or unworthy orphans?
2024-06-09
THIS is with reference to the article `Jinnah`s children` (June 1), which very rightly lamented the fact that we have yet to be clear about the originality of the Quaid-i-Azam`s vision of Pakistan. I firmly believe that we are not Jinnah`schildren, but orphans; orphans who have shown no interest in the legacy of the Father of the Nation. If anything, we have done the best we could do to tarnish his image. Instead of respecting and implementing his vision for Pakistan, we have made the vision itself controversial.
Only three days before independence, on Aug 11, 1947, Jinnah had delivered a speech outlining his vision of Pakistan.
The Pakistan the Quaid envisioned was a secular state. He clearly declared Pakistan as a state where everyone would have the freedom to go to their mosques, synagogues, temples or churches.
In today`s Pakistan, even the Muslims are not safe in their mosques. How can we provide protection to the churches and temples? Unless we implement the Quaid`s original thoughts about Pakistan, which have been clearly outlined in his speeches, we will remain orphans unworthy orphans, mind you and not the children of the Father of the Nation.
The government should actually set up some sort of a truth commission to sort out all the clutter that has amassed around the founding father`s vision of Pakistan, and elaborate what the Quaid wanted from us. The next step will be to follow it.
