PESHAWAR: A group of elders belonging to Mohmand Agency on Wednesday accused the political administration of supporting an influential land grabber and warned to start holding protest demonstrations if the practice of land grabbing was not stopped forthwith.
One Ali Haider Khan, flanked by a number of elders, told a press conference at Peshawar Press Club that an influential man, Nawab Ali, had allegedly occupied a vast piece of his land by force in connivance with the local administration, but the authorities concerned were not ready to take notice of the injustice.
He alleged that the Levies force had subjected his family members, including women, to violence while they were protesting against the administration because it was forcefully preparing pavement in his agriculture land.
Accompanied by women members of his family, Ali Haider said that the Levies force had also kept him in habeas corpus for 30 days when he started voicing concern over the injustices with him.
He also claimed that the personnel had tried to take his thumb impression on a blank paper, but he resisted such attempts.
He said that on the intervention of administration a four-member jirga of elders had been constituted to resolve the issue, but even then the rival group came in the dark of night and constructed a pavement.
Ali Haider demanded of Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmed Khan to take notice of the injustice and help him recover his land.
He said that people of Mohmand region had already suffered heavily due to militancy.
`We have returned to our villages and trying to live peacefully, but land grabbersarenotreadytoleaveus at peace,` he said.
