MC ex-chief booked for `power theft`

BAHAWALNAGAR: The former chairman of the Chishtian Municipal Committee (MC) and his brother were booked for stealing electricity for the past two years from an MC`s meter.

According to an FIR registered with A-Division Police, on the complaint of MC Chief Officer Sultan Haidar, Abdul Razzaq Ramay shif ted a single-phase meter of streetlights near his residence in Gulberg Colony during his tenure as chairman. Ramay and his brother Waris Ramay were caught stealing electricity from the meter by an MC team during a survey.

Mr Ramay, however, told a press conference that there was a political pressure on him to join thePML-N and when he refused to do so, a f ake case with the connivance of the administration was registered against him.

He alleged that a dozen of police officials entered his house after breaking the doors,torturedandharassed women and children and looted Rs150,000 in cash and mobile phones besides arresting his brother.

He said the of ficials broke into the house at about lam on Thursday without any search warrant and women police of ficials.

He said he had a footage of the forced entry of police into his house and also shared CCTV footage in which police personnel in several vehicles could be seen outside his residence.

Mr Ramay demanded a suo motu notice from the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP), saying despite the clear instructions of the CJP, PTI leaders were being harassed to influence the upcoming by-elections.
