MONSOON WOES: When the National

2025-07-09
MONSOON WOES: When the National Logistics Cell (NLC) started the Karachi Storm Water Drain project in the Defence Housing Authority (DH A) area, the residents expected quality construction work. However, the roads that were built afterwards were of extremely poor quality.

No proper levelling was done, drain inlets were above the ground level, and the slopes were away from the inlets. As such, a single day of rains recently exposed how ineffective the entire project was. The Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) had to manually sweep and pump the accumulated rainwater towards the drains. The residents, however, continue to suffer.

Arsalan Farugi Karachi MISUSING ELECTRICITY: The Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (Hesco) does not bother to turn off streetlights during daytime, while major portions of Latifabad area remain without power supply for hours. The power is available, but is used where it is not needed.

This is mismanagement on Hesco`s part.

Muhammad Mahmood Hyderabad UNFAIR PRACTICE: The residents of Korangi and North Karachi are being routinely subjected to more than 14 hours of loadshedding every day. Those who pay their bills regularly have no advantage over the rest because K-Electric imposes area-wide outages. The absence of smart metering, transformer-level audits, and targeted action hasled tofrustration and injustice. The authorities should install smart meters in high-loss areas, and introduce measures for those who are regular in the payment of energy bills.

ShafaqKazmi Karachi SALARY CRISIS: The contract-based employees of Pakistan Television (PTV) Karachi Centre have been facing issues as the salaries have not been disbursed for the last couple of months. There is no way the employees can manage their expenses and survive in these inflationary times without salaries. The higher authorities should urgently resolve the salary crisis.
