THE Hub district holds strategic importance in Balochistan as it borders Sindh province, especially the link between Karachi and Balochistan. The situation prevailing in Hub, despite its importance as a gateway city to Karachi, paints a bitter reality of administrative flaws. Important roads have turned into pools of sewage. For instance, Lasi Road, which is a major thoroughfare, isnothingbut a nightmare for the commuters.
The whole district, especially the city of Hub, has been facing intense monsoon rains for the last couple of years. The memories of the last year`s devastating rains are still fresh in the minds as life in both Bela and Hub districts had been severely affected. Since then, the municipal authorities have hardly doneanything worthwhile to put civic life back on track. What was destroyed remains destroyed to date.
Local government elections have been held in the district and the new office-bearers have taken over from their predecessors. But this has had no impact on the deafening official silence over administrative issues.
The authorities concerned should get out of their slumber and wake up to the reality. The city`s administrative problems have already turned chronic, and there is a need for urgent action.
