THIS is apropos the article `Poaching the (mal)practitioners` (Images on Sunday, Aug 30). A quote by Prof (Dr) Javed Akram said: `There isn`t a single hospital in Pakistan that has been accredited by JCI, but India has managed to secure JCI accreditation for more than two dozen hospitals.
We would like to clarify that the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH), Karachi, is the only hospital in Pakistan to have Joint Commission International accreditation since 2006 and has been re-accredited as an Academic Medical Centre on Aug 11.
Being accredited as an Academic Medical Centre means that patient safety and care at the Aga Khan University Hospital, its Postgraduate Medical E ducation programme and human subjects` research are of an international standard. AKUH`s JCI score was 98.5pc, which places it amongst the best academic medical centres in the world. We are also the first teaching hospital in Pakistan to receive ISO certification and recertification, for AKUH on June 11, 2015, for its four secondary hospitals on May 4 last and for its food services on May 20 last.
