THE authorities concerned, especially the railways minister, should take immediate notice of the fast-paced commercialised encroachment at Model Colony Railway Station on the defunct Karachi Circular Railway line.
Earlier, only one end of the station was encroached by makeshift shops etc. and the main platform was encroachment-free.
However, with no imminent signs of revival of the circular railway in sight, organised businesses have taken over the railway station and about seven kms of railway track along with the adjoining 100 feet space on both sides from Malir Halt to Model Colony.
Scores of cattle pens, motor workshops, eateries, mini cinemas, etc., have been established. Recently, a new concrete and steel structure is emerging fast on the other end of the platform for commercial usage.
