PESHAWAR: The Galyat Development Authority (GDA) is working in three shifts to complete the construction and repair of roads in the scenic tourist destination of Galyat.
This was stated by GDA director Raza Ali Habib while briefing tourism and youth affairs secretary Mohammad Azam Khan, who is also the authority`s director general, according to a press release issued by the department here on Tuesday.
The official said that roads between the tourist resorts of Nathiagali and Ayubia had been widened. He said that 80 per cent construction work on other roads would be completed by Nov 30.
`Eleven of the 17 small and medium roads in four serene spots in Ayubia, Khanaspur, Nathiagali and Changlagali are near completion,` he said. The repair and renovation work of chairlif t is also in full swing to make it functional next week.
The chairlift was built in 1964 and since then no major repair work had been done.
After the repair of chairlift, the tourists would be able to enjoy ride between the scenic spots. The director also said that GDA would launch another cleanliness campaign from Sept 14 in which garbage on 30km road from Baragali to Barian would be disposed of. He said that additional sanitation staff had been hired for the purpose. A cleanliness campaign held already been held in Nathiagali, Ayubia and Changlagali.
The official said that owners of hotels had been warned to keep their surroundings clean, or else their hotels would be sealed. In this regard, an agreement was also signed with the hotels, while the local population in six Galyat townships extended full support to the government in this initiative.
The statement said that soon after taking over charge of GDA the new management had launched uplift projects in Galyat to facilitate tourists and local population.
