NOWSHERA: The police on Friday arrested two persons, including a woman, while trying to smuggle hashish to Punjab from Fata.
During a search, the police stopped a motorcycle at Suriakhel and seized 3.4kg high quality hashish kept under seat of the bike.
The arrested smugglers were named Mir Bakhsh of Risalpur and a woman, Sahira of Gulbahar Peshawar.
A case was registered against the accused at Akora Khattak police station.
Meanwhile, DIG Mardan region Mohammad Alam Shinwari during a surprise visit to Nowshera checked security arrangements at different Imambargahs.
Accompanied by district police officer Wahid Mehmood and police personnel, the DIG visited the control room, especially formed for ensuring effective security arrangements during the upcoming month of Muharram.
They also visited Anjman-i-Darul Anwarul Hussania Khattak Building, Imambargah Ali Masjid and Imambargah Anjuman-i-Jaferia.
DIG Alam Shinwari told reporters on the occasion that Nowshera police always played vital role in maintaining law and order.
He said that they had prepared a security plan for Muharram to ensure foolproof security to mourning processions in the district.
