Dawn Report 2023-09-09
SWAT/DERA ISMAIL KHAN: The Counter-Terrorism Department, Malakand, on Friday claimed to have killed a wanted terrorist.

According to a press release issued by the CTD Malakand, the department had registered a case on June 8, 2023, after two police constables of the Mingora police station were martyred at the People`s Chowk in Mingora.

The case was filed at the CTD Malakand police station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Afterwards, the CTD Malakand had launched an investigation to trace the attackers.

The press release said on Sept 7 (Thursday), Swat CTD received a tipoff that Niko Mohammad, a wanted terrorist and a resident of Usman Abad Banar, Mingora, was seen on Fizaghat Road with plans to engage in subversive activities.

A team from CTD Malakand immediately launched an intelligencedriven operation at a key site with the intention of apprehending the suspect.

It said a suspected white car with a driver inside was seen parked on the side of the road.

Instead of complying with the CTD team`s order to get out of the car, the man opened fire on the officers. The CTD police immediately took defensive positions and retaliated to the fire, in which the terrorist was killed inside the car.

Meanwhile, in Dera Ismail Khan, the police repulsed a terrorist attack on a police station on Thursday night.

A police spokesman said unknown militants stormed Draban police station with automatic weapons, hand grenades and rockets.

The police promptly and effectively retaliated and an exchange of fire continued for half an hour, forcing the terrorists to escape.

The official said no casualties occurred. He said the police had cordoned off the area and started a search operation for the fleeing terrorists.
