I PITY the government for two things: first, for doing something stupid and, second,forofferingyetanotherstupid excuse for doing so.
Instead of sacking the minister for the `error`. the Punjab chief minister says there is a need for inquiring into the matter about tinkering with the format of the oath in From-A. Why was it considered necessary to amend the most important words from `I solemnly swear` to I believe`? How could this be a clerical mistake.
The change was not an error but a deliberate action to re-write the oath, which makes it very unfortunate and, in f act, betrays a mischievous bent of mind.
Hence the need for a through inquiry and disclosure of its findings.
