T HIS is apropos the letter `Dawn man` (Oct 6). I do not subscribe to Ilsa Abdul Razzaq`s view and also consider the expression of regret by the editor unnecessary and uncalled-for.
The quoted sentence is self-explanatory.
It reads: `In natural calamities or man-made disasters, street battles or war zones, the Dawn man has been aware of the factthatheis serving a paperfounded by the man who founded Pakistan`.
The phrases `man-made disasters` `Dawn man` and `founded by the man` do not necessarily point at the male gender but the word `man` connotes a humanbeing. It is said `Man is mortal` or `Man is a social animal`. This doesn`t mean that a woman is not.
I stand by Muhammad Ali Siddigi`s use of the term `man` as it denotes the two genders and is not discriminatory in any sense, as understood by the writer.
