FAISALABAD: Robbers gunned down a security guard and injured a driver on resistance here on Monday on Samundri Road.

Deathof theguardidentifiedasRehmatAliirkedthevillagers who turned up near Roshanwala bypass and blocked traffic by placing the body on Samundri Road. They chanted slogans against the police and demanded arrest of the robbers.

People said Rehmat, guard at a petrol pump, along with cashier Anwar and driver were on their way to deposit amount with a nearby bank when two bikers signalled them to stop. The robbers opened fire when the driver did not stop the vehicle and bullets hit Rehmat and the driver.

They said Rehmat succumbed to his injuries on the spot while the driver managed to take the car to the bank and Anwar entered the branch, leaving no room for the robbers to loot them.

A couple of days ago, the protesters said they had handed over two suspects to Dijkot police who released them after allegedly receiving the bribe. Police denied the charge that any suspect was handed over to the Dijkot of ficials.

The protesters alleged that police had been informed of the killing of Rehmat but they reached the spot af ter a considerable delay. The driver is said to be stable.

The protesters dispersed following a dialogue with the police. Staf f Correspondent
