E-library starts functioning at Vehari Stadium

VEHARI:Ane-Librarystarted functioning at the Vehari Stadium on Multan Road here on Monday.

The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and the Punjab Youth Affairs, Sports, Archaeology and Tourism Departments established the e-Library as part of a project under which similar e-libraries were established in 20 districts of the province.

Adeel Farooq, the man in charge of the e-Library, told Dawn the f acility comprised of an auditorium with seating capacity for 50 people, multimedia facility, e-Rozgar room with computers, e-learning facility, digital library access room, tablets and free WiFi.He said hard copies of 3,000 books, documentaries and magazines had also been provided in the library with access to the central digital library resources. Mr Farooq said the library offered free access without a membership fee and soon after the recruitment of more staff an evening shift will also be started.

`The centralised digitallibrary established and hosted at the PITB data centre also provided access to the users of this library to more than 50,000 e-books, theses, documentaries, videos, audios, local and international newspapers, magazines and journals, text and reference books, he added.

Former Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif had inaugurated the project on Feb 15 during his visit to Vehari but the e-Library started functioning on Monday.
