Lawyers to be consulted on amendments: governor

TOBA TEK SINGH: Governor Saleem Haider Khan said in his address to the District Bar Association (DBA) Faisalabad on Tuesday that constitutional amendments will be introduced after consulting all stakeholders, including lawyers.

He said that the PPP leadership led the movement for the restoration of former chief justice Iftikhar Chaudhry but after he got restored, he ignored both lawyers and the political parties.

He said his party wanted abalance between the judiciary and the parliament to strengthen the democratic system.

He said Bilawal Bhutto Zardari visited bars in Sindh and Balochistan and will also visit Faisalabad bar soon to explain the party`s vision on the issue of constitutional amendments.

He supported the longstanding demand of local layers for the establishment of the Lahore High Court bench in Faisalabad.

The governor said the Faisalabad DBA is the third largest bar of Pakistan and the establishment of the LHCbench here is need of the hour.

He said the cases of Faisalabad are many times more than those being heard by Multan and Rawalpindi benches of the LHC.

He said every effort would be made for establishment of LHC bench in Faisalabad soon to provide justice to the people of the city at their doorstep, because it was the part of the PPP`s manifesto.

DBA President Mian Anwar Haq, Secretary Rana Murtaza Hakeem, Member Punjab Bar Council Farooq Dogar and office-bearers of the district and tehsil bars were also present.
