PESHAWAR, Nov 8: Students of Institute of Physics and Electronics, University of Peshawar (UoP), displayed over 25 of their scientific models at a one-day exhibition here on Friday.
Provincial Minister for Science and Technology Shahram Tarakai inaugurated the exhibition, said a UoP press release.
The models included first sniffer system based on GSM, cell phone control cum obstacle detector cum LCD display, scrolling of cellphone messages on a dot matrix display based on GSM, microcontroller-based intelligent security code lock system, automatic traffic light density control system, small unmanned ground vehicle and security-based semi-autonomous vehicle.
Accompanied by vice-chancellor Dr Rasul Jan and the institute`s director Dr Yasin Iqbal, the minister saw the models and appreciated the students` work.
Mr Tarakai said on the occasion that the work on display showed that the province had abundant of talent despite unfavorable situation in the region.
He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was committed to promoting research culture in universities.
He said that they were taking steps to create job opportunities and stop brain drain from the province and Fata.
The vice-chancellor said on the occasion that the UoP was focusing on research and outreach activities to build a knowledge-based economy.
He praised the initiatives like promulgation of Right to Information Act by the present government.
Earlier, in his inaugural remarks Dr Iqbal said that development of science and technology was essential for the country`s development.
